I have a male betta for about 8 months now. Last weekend, my sister left the windows open and the temperature in the tank got down to about 65 degrees. He’s warmed back up now, but now he’s spitting out all ( or at least most ) of his food. I htought that maybe he was still too cold, so have bought a tank w/ a heater and he is in there. The transfer went ok and he seems to be enjoying the new habitat, but something is still obviously amiss as he still is spitting everything out. He was originally eating pellets, but I’ve tried both live brine shrimp and frozen brine shrimp with the same results. It is possible that he did swallow one or two brine shrimp, but this is a far cry from his previous appetite. Does anyone have any idea what his problem could be? His coloration is fine, and his entire demeanor seems unchanged, other than his appetite is gone. Its been over a week like this and I am very concerned. Please help.
His body might still be adjusting to the constant fluctuation of the temperature in the tank. Give him a few days hell be fine.

Sometimes it’s because the food is to big. Did you get a different brand of food? i’d check to see if the pellets are to big, if they are then i would get a different smaller kind. sometimes if the pellets are to big, they won’t eat the shrimp either, so maybe if you get smaller pellets and he eats that, than he should start eating the shrimp too.

well i breed beta fish and what i think is that depending on how long ago you put the heater in he might still be adjusting to it. or just leave the food at the top(if it doesent fall) and he`ll come up when hes hungry … if he doesent then you might wanna talk him to the vet.

ive had bettas that eat once every 3 days and still end up fine so i wouldnt be too worryed, but check the pH levels and stuff, maybe he doesnt like shrimp, try live blackworm, bloodworm, even small tadpoles. its not uncommon for bettas to spit their food out, try also changing his feeding times.

Avoid heating the water too much, if it gets hot enough he will not be able to breath. The molecules of oxygen will escape the tank and he will be have some trouble, it doesn’t sound like you heated it that much, but I just want to make sure. Feed him less for a day or so, and then see if he is willing to take any food in, or perhaps the tank needs cleaning. Regardless of points I hope your Beta is well.

He’ll be Just fine, bettas can go at least a week w/o starving. continue to coax his appetite with food. after a stressful period it’s very normal for bettas to be a little finicky.
Keep an eye on him (and his gills) to make sure there are no parisites or fungus, if you notice that, there are treatments available and they will work fine.
Also, bettas like warmer water – 75-80 F is where they’ll thrive.
but for now, as long as he’s active, you’ve got nothing to worry about, good job getting him a new setup though, i bet he loves it!

Yea dont worry bettas always do this – mine is notorious for it! Just dont feed him for a couple of days so he can build up a bit of an appitie. Make sure his food is bite size if its too big he will spit it back – or if it tastes crappy he will spit it back as well.
