Bettas can eat most anything. THe veggies and small fruits are good for a varyed diet. I

they can eat small chopped pieces of cocktail shrimp, mosquito larvae and will eat cooked deshelled pea – but thats more to aid digestion than a staple food.
they are meat eaters and even if they do take veggies, it’s the protein they really need.

A short and simple answer to your question? No. Stick with the food you find at the pet store; many years of scientific research and testing have gone into those little pellets to make sure they are nutritionally balanced for your betta, and most importantly, they will not foul up the water. And any homemade food would need to be cut up small enough not to choke him, and if it doesn’t float your betta probably won’t eat it.
If you want to add some variety, other than dry packaged food, see what your petstore offers in live food (worms, brine shrimp, fruit flies, etc.) Be aware that keeping these live foods alive long enough to feed them to your fish takes work, and they are more expensive than dry food.
Bettas are adapted for eating insects that fall into the water, hence the upturned mouth, and the fact that they hang out near the surface of the water all the time.
I hope that this was helpful.

A common food in the wild is mosquito larvae, but I don’t recommend deliberately breeding any in case of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria & dengue fever. Just poke around outside your house to see if there is any in fairly stagnant bodies of water. Sometimes I also feed small ants to my betta, which should be easy to find in almost any home but not if any pesticide had been sprayed nearby.
I’ve not heard of anyone feeding fruits & veggie material to bettas, also not mentioned in any books I’ve read. You could try a bit of blanched veggies like spinach & slightly mashed peas. But don’t be disappointed if he doesn’t bite and he wouldn’t be eating much.
