Can you keep erectus with miniature seahorses?

I have a portioned off “refugium” in my 55 gallon tank, with all sorts of macro-algae, rotifers, microorganisms, etc in it.

Since both seahorses come from the same habitat (the gulf of Mexico) can I keep them together?

Miniatures would be wild caught and erectus would be from captive bred sources…. or is it more of an issue/problem to mix captive bred with wild caught than to mix the species?

PS: I have a great brine shrimp hatchery system going for the miniatures, and the petstore with frozen food for the erectus is just up the street :-)

  2. Mixing wild caught and captive bred seahorses are never a good idea. One type of them is likely to get sick with something that the other one is carrying but not affected by (like chicken pox killing large amount of native people but not the explorers). A UV sterilizer might help but I wouldn’t consider it worth the risk.
