I have a 5 week old betta fry, he is over half an inch and has been doing well until now. He keeps on sinking, he shoots up to the top for air then will sink back down. When he tries to swim he only declines back to the bottom. He stays on the bottom or sometimes lays on the heater or filter, sideways and gasping it seems. What do I do?! I feed my fish and none of the other have problems like this. I feed the fry microworms, baby brine shrimp (freshly hatched within 12 hours) and some atison’s betta starter. he is my biggest fish and I’m really worried about him. Help!
Awww. It sounds like it will die soon. Mine did this and it was dead in 1 day. Can you get it up to a pet store now?

Sounds like a swim bladder problem from over eating. You could remove him from the grow out tank and place him in a jar that has less water in it to make it easier for him to breathe. ( If you do this and he is a male you will not be able to place him back in the grow out tank. He will become aggressive, even if you remove him for one day.) Alot of breeders have some problems with feeding BBS. The fry tend to get constipated or swim bladder disease. You could try to fast him for a few days and see how he does. How many times do you feed them a day and how often do you clean the tank? At 5 weeks old you could cut back to twice a day. And remember to scoop the left overs out each afternoon. This will help keep the tank clean as well as preventing the fry from overeating. Also if you get alot of brine shrimp eggs into the tank that can also cause problems.
