What size is the bichir? And how often do you feed? That info might make a difference!
ADDITION: Nice that he’s eating frozen for you – not all do. If he’s finishing within about 2 minutes, he should be okay on not overfeeding, but you don’t want the belly to be sunken, either. Don’t feed him just brine shrimp, and used enriched varieties when you can get them. Only the newly hatched brine shrimp are really nutritious by themselves, adults need to be fed spirulina or other foods to be quality food for other fish. You’ll find Brine shrimp with Omega 3s, HUFAs, and spirulina added. Also try feeding him frozen krill, or popcorn/salad shrimp (from the supermarket). If you have an area where you can get them without fear of pesticides, insects and earthworms are good too (maybe worms a bait shop, or the worms, crickets, and mealworms for reptiles as treats). You might be able to get him to eat some pieces of frozen fish filets fromt he supermarket, too.
