Why are brine shrimp attracted to light?

..I am doing an experiment, and I have trouble finding why, other than the fact that they are “phototropic”..or is that it?

  1. Brine shrimp eat phytoplankton, tiny plants that are like dust in the water. I suppose the light helps them see their dinner.

  2. Could they have a parasite that is, through extended phenotypic expression, forcing the shrimp’s detrimental behavior. In the light the shrimp is more exposed to the predators who are the parasite’s final destination.
