my angel fish layed eggs and everything was going great the babies started swimming on ther own in the grow out tank at about a week old. i feed them the baby brine shrimp and did water changes all of the time(once a day) so that the water didnt get to dirty…Then last night it was really hot and the tank temp went up to 90 degrees(it was usually 78-80) and this morning there were only 4 left and they look pretty bad. is it the weather that killed them wrong and what can i do to have more babies live longer next time??
also i have the parents tank with gravel and plants and stuff…if i took that out and lets the adults raise them would i get a better turn out and then move them into the grow out tank at about 4 weeks(when they start to look like little angels)
lmfao!!
then fix it

I’d say the temperature change killed the fry. Fry are more sensitive than adults. Try and keep the tank at as steady of a temp as you can (can be difficult to do on a hot night with no AC). I wouldn’t leave the adults with the babies, most cichlids are good parents, but angels don’t tend to be good to their young.

well i think the hotter water is what messed them up. baby’s of almost any kind are at more susceptible to over heating or large temperature changes.
next time i would regulate the temp. more
that’s all i can think of
also i think its great that you change the water daily and is sounds like you are very responsible
hope this helps and that it is the best answer i would love the 10 extra points ( not trying to b greedy)

Awww, I’m so sorry. I know how exciting it is when you see your first baby fry and they all look healthy and seem right. Baby fry can be very difficult to maintain for the best enthusiast and if this is your first go at it be proud that you were able to have those eggs hatch out! You had to be doing something right, don’t let yourself get discouraged.
What size is the tank they are in and are you able to check the water chemical parameters, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? Was their tank and water already cycled?
So many things can go wrong the first time.
Please let us know how you are doing, and if you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask.
Please be kind to yourself.

It had to be the tempature…thats a very drastic change for a fish and babies are very fragile. If you live in a hot climate you may want to consider buying a cooling device for the tank…they arent easy to find at chain pet stores but may find them at specialty stores or online. Make sure the fish tank isnt near any windows or against a wall that is on the outside of the house…having it against a wall with the outdoor environment right on the other side can cause severe fluctuations in the tempature.
