There has to be dissolved oxygen in the water so the sea monkeys can “breathe”. They need oxygen just as we do. If you don’t oxygenate the water and you have a lot of them they will eventually use all the oxygen that’s there and then they will die.

Lightning Rod is right. But about the bubbles floating out, think about this: Plants “breathe” out oxygen under water as well as on land. You just can’t see it. It isn’t about “air bubbles.” It’s about the amount of oxygen in the water. Without oxygen in the water, no animal life could exist in the water.
