African Cichlids Feeding on Brine Shrimp

I stir 2 cubes of frozen brine shrimp and feed them to my African cichlids (and Pictus catfish) in my 90 gallon tank. Most of the fish in there are hybrids (originating from a cross between a male Melanochromis chipokae and a female albino ???) that refuse to die and keep breeding. They’re onto like the 10th+ generation or something now and more & more offspring seem to survive each generation as they become evermore adapted to the environment in my tank. The yellow fish with black-edged fins is a Labidochromis caeruleus (Yellow Lab). The 2 fish that are gray with black stripes & have red bellies are Amatitlania nigrofasciata (Convict Ciclids). There’s also 2 Pseudotropheus acei which are blue with yellow fins and 1 Metriaclima estherae OB (Red Zebra) that is orange-blotched with black splotches and is probably female. You can see my Metriaclima estherae at 3:53 to 3:57 up close. The Pictus catfish (Pimelodus pictus) are silver with gray spots and hover around primarily on the bottom. They swim really fast when trying to eat as much food as possible during feeding. There’s also a pleco of unknown specie & gender hiding in there somewhere, but I doubt he/she shows up in this vid.

African cichlids eating brine shrimp

Here’s my 55 gallon African cichlid tank. I fed them frozen brine shrimp and they go crazy. As soon as I tap my ring on the glass they go into a frenzy.

Oxymonacanthus longirostris – the Orangedspotted / Harlequin / Longnosed Filefish is generally considered to be an obligatory coral feeder…this possible female has, after 4 days, become an aggressive consumer of enriched frozen brine shrimp and has started to accept frozen Hikari Mysis. Whether this will be sufficient to sustain this fish for the long term is unknown. This fish was already eating when purchased…this is definitely not typical for the species.
