Getting a mandarin, question about copepods…?

Can I put a tank divider in my tank to seperate the mandarin from some of the copepods so they can multiply? Would that work?
The pet store states the mandarin is eating brine shrimp, I just want to be sure it doesn’t starve. (Haven’t gotten one yet; researching in advance).
Thanks!
I have heard the 6 month waiting period.. can somebody explain that further to me? Is it because there are not enough copepods to satisfy its needs? If you were able to feed brine shrimp and supplement with bottles of copepods, could you bypass the 6 months?

macroinvertebrate and crustacean activity

Macroinvertebrates consist of hundreds of species that can be found in vernal pools. In this video try and find the fairy shrimp, mosquito larvae, water mites, copepods, chironomid midges, and so much more! Macroinvertebrates are key to the vernal pool ecosystem as they help decompose the leaf litter and provide food for amphibians, reptiles, and birds.
