Cleaning saltwater tank with a mandarin goby (dragonet)?

I am starting up a reef tank and would eventually like to get a mandarin (in 6 plus months after much research). I am putting in crushed coral substrate and adding live rock.
I know these fish feed off of copepods (sometimes brine shrimp). I am wondering how you clean the substrate. If you vacuum the substrate, aren’t you vacuuming up the copepods – thus the mandarins food source? How does that work?
I am curious and cant figure it out.
Thank you.

Fish Feeding Question???

I have 8 fish. My red coral gouarmi eats EVERYTHING. He doesen’t leave anything for the rest of the tank. I feed them blood worms/ flakes and sometimes brine shrimp. What can I do? Thanks!

How long do and how big do Lake Malawi Cichlids get?

I have a gorgeous tank of 8 Cichlids. 12 months old tank (still new in my case) and settled well. There like my babies! They started buying 2 at a time just. Two fishes have grown 5inch and the rest are at a standstill they have grown a lot however since I bought them as babies. I sit and watch them for hours. They’ve develop into intelligent beautiful stunning vibrant fish. I have mimmicked their habitat adding some crushed coral substrate. I feed 1 cubes of frozen Brine Shrimp and flake AM and PM. Ph is spot on. I use blackwater a drop each month and salt for their fins and antistress solution before handing if rocks need moving. No deaths for a year! PH is brill and no alge I have no pests I change water 10% once a week, and 25% once 6 weeks. I don’t touch my external filter not to disturb the bio. I have only ONE species of Cichlids they are ALL Malawi. I wondered how long do they live for, and how big do these fish get. I wish I knew their names :( any advice would be helpful x

Saltwater damsel fish death?

I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank with a 4in. live sand bed, and a few pieces of fake coral. We have a power head (wave maker) a heater and a dual whisper filter with 2 bio-wheels. I let my tank run for a full month before adding (i’m not sure that did any good, but I waited anyway) just the other day I purchased 3 small yellow tailed blue damsels. Acclimated them just like we were told and even fed them live brine shrimp. The next morning, there was a white fish that was once blue laying dead at the bottom of the tank. Checked the levels the Ammonia was 0, pH was 8.2, Nitrite was 0, and Nitrate was 0, and the hydrometer said 1.022….The other 2 fish seemed fine and were swimming and eating …the next day yet another fish dead….checked the levels again I got the same results…now today they other fish is found dead in the same spot as the others? The pH is 8.3, so that is slightly higher but nothing else. What are we doing wrong? Anything we can do/buy that would help?
