Artificially Raising Discus Fry – Gwynnbrook Farm

These creatures were in a packet under my sink for two years. On the packet they are called sea monkeys, they are in fact brine shrimp. The song by creep used to be one of my favourites when i was angry.

Discus Fry Free Swimming

1, 2 and 5 day old, free swimming discus fry. Notice how small the fry appear. They grow very quickly. They exclusively eat off of their parent’s sides for the first few days. Usually, by day 4 or 5 you can start feeding them live baby brine shrimp. This video was taken on March 2nd, 2010 at our discus hatchery.

Just a quick look at my discus babies, I love them heaps and heaps. My Discus are currently on a very high protein diet consisting of, Brine shrimp, Freeze dried black worms, frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, New Life Thera A Discus Formula and of course beef heart. I feed them 4 -5 times daily to make sure their growth isn’t stunted. They are only a few months Old but I love them so dearly. Inhabitants of tank: Discus x3 Pleco and Bristlenose Angel Fish 1x corydora Platys 1x female fighter 1xguppy female (she escaped the net)

I recently stocked a new 14 Gallon Biocube saltwater aquarium. Currently, inside I have 2 nassarius sand snails, 2 Scarlet hermit crabs, 1 Red Fire goby, 1 elegant firefish goby, 1 purple coral polyp, and 1 Green-White striped Mushroom coral. To feed my biocube I use frozen cube brine shrimp, purchased at a local business.

Red Turquoise Discus Fish with Fry – Gwynnbrook Farm

Here are some red turquoise discus fry eating baby brine shrimp while being protected by their parents. The fry are a few weeks old. The tiny dots in the water are baby brine shrimp. Notice how full the discus fry bellies are after eating the baby brine shrimp. Discus fish are usually very protective of their fry. Watch how the parents will charge forward towards the front of the tank protecting their fry.
