I bought an aquabreed 200 which is a brine shrimp hatchery that goes into the aquarium?

and uses the heat from the aquarium and the light to hatch the shrimp. It states it takes 24-36 hours (not sure if that time frame is with lights on 24 hours a day – which of course they are not as that would upset the fish).
It has been about 32 hours. (They are decapsulated) Doesn’t seem they have hatched, how can I know for sure?
Also, what the hell is the smell about????
Got to be honest, not getting a lot (or any) helpful answers here people.
