Whitish-gray pock marks on Oscar?

3 1/2 yr old Tiger Oscar, 8″ from tip to tip, living alone in 40 gal tank. Water slightly acidic and hard. Partial water changes done about 6gal every two weeks. Undergravel filter w/ powerhead and Aquaclear 300 outside filter. Fed Hikari brand Oscar tablets, occasional frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. He gets live feeder goldfish every now and then, but only after they’ve been quarantined for at least a week.

Recently Oscar has developed symmetric pock marks about the size of a BB and grayish-white in color about 1/16 ” apart around his whole jaw (from one side of face to other.) Doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort, and he eats well, but the marks resemble the “hole in the head disease” from the ’80′s. But I believe that was parasitic and was generally one lesion only.

Does anyone think I should be concerned?

BTW…I’ve had freshwater tropicals all my life; have successfully bred angels and have kept many happy, healthy discus; so I’m not a noob.
Detail…now I’m kicking myself for not Googling ‘hole in the head disease’, but it was just a wild stab; I didn’t think it happened anymore. But that’s almost certainly what he has after seeing the pictures. Damn I hope I can save him.

If you return here, please tell me what you can about the carbon affect…I rinse it occasionally but change it even more less. Thanks.

Thanks Copperhead. 11 points ASAP.
Edit 2: That comment about the carbon should have read “less often,” but apparently you can’t fix additional details once you hit submit.

Is this a good diet for my betta fish?

I feed my betta twice a day. In the morning I feed him two Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets – here is a picture of it: http://www.aquatichouse.com/Fish%20Food_files/betta%20bio-gold.asp

Then in the afternoons I feed him a small chunk of frozen food. For the frozen foods I thaw the small chunk in a small amount of water for a couple of minutes.

Here is the schedule of his afternoon feedings:

Sunday – frozen brine shrimp

Monday – frozen blood worms

Tuesday – fresh batch of live black worms I get from a local pet store.

Wednesday – frozen blood worms

Thurday – the same live black worms.

Friday – frozen blood worms

Saturday – frozen krill

Keep in mind, I feed him the pellets every morning. For the black worms, the pet store gets a new shipment every Tuesday so I feed him a fresh batch on Tuesday, and then on Thursday where I throw out the remaining black worms.

He eats everything and still looks healthy and active..just want to make sure his diet is ok

Betta Food?

Ok well I just switched my pellet from the Wardley brand to Hikari, the top rated in Betta food.

No what I need to know is what else to feed him. Bloodworms, brine shrimp, and those short of things. Also how to prepare them to be as safe as possible and have the very least amount of bacteria on them.

Should I raise and prepare them myself, or by them pre-freezed or freeze dried?

Also I need to know how to make green water. I’m planning on starting a Daphnia farm. What else can live in green water that I can raise on my own?

Can you recommend me your favorite goldfish food and treat ?

i seem to be running out of food and i feel the my fish is bored of the hikari food i feed them ;]
i always feed them peas and friuts too :]
what other treats do goldfish like? (do they like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and other stuff?
