Ctenopoma acutirostre

These fish are highly carnivorous. Their diet should consist of brine shrimp, tubifex worms, and mollusks. Quality flakes and pellets will be accepted but meaty foods should be the main diet.Origin Africa; they are found in the Congo River Basins. Sexing Sexing can be difficult. The only visible difference is the short spines that are present on the gill covers of the males. There are none present on the females. Breeding A large, well planted tank should be used for breeding. As these fish are bubble nest builders, the addition of floating plants will help them. The water should be soft and acidic with a reduced water flow. Once the fish have spawned, they should be moved to another tank. The fry can be fed on Infusoria initially; as they grow their diet can consist of newly hatched brine shrimp. Lifespan The expected life span for this fish is 5-8 years. Short description Plenty of hiding places in the tank will put these fish at ease. In the wild they hunt their prey, bending their caudal fin to resemble a leaf. These are nocturnal fish so they may hide away in the day time.

This film is a meditation on the violence of the natural world. Dr. Seuss creatures play out dramas of life and death in this world in a thimble of water.Hydras are freshwater predators, one of the simplest animals. Their prey are minute crustacea. The creatures are Daphnia sp., Artemia sp. (Brine Shrimp), and Hydra (viridis and littoralis, or green and brown). H. viridis are longer and thinner than H. littoralis. The Hydras attempt to catch and eat the the small, round Daphnia and the giant, shrimp-like Artemia. The film begins with close-up shots of the Daphnia and Artemia swimming around. Then the long, tentacled Hydra attempt to capture their prey, in some cases succeeding and swallowing them whole. This process takes up to 30 minutes and some scenes are shot in time lapse from 1 fps to 1/3 fps. The last shot is a freeze-frame on a hydra holding the much bigger Artemia in its mouth that it has succeeded in catching, but is too big to eat. Hydras are the only animal that does not age; they are immortal in the sense that they do not die of old age (of course they can be killed by predators, disease or accident). In some scenes you can see the Hydra forming a bud, asexual reproduction by self-cloning. Hydras are also hermaphroditic. The mouth is an opening at one end in the middle of all the tentacles, which are covered with poisonous stinging cells that paralyze their prey. The other end of the Hydra is a foot that that can cling to a surface. Hydra and Daphnia can be
